Do you find that the jig has enough stability even with the short front edge on the jig when it sits on the grinder?

Do the pins get hot when you are sanding the grooves?

I want to do this on a brass ring, will it work?

Hand sanding all the way.

I have one of these jigs and fitted hardened file guide steel on edges of knife holder. I then clamp knife ONCE with the 2 Allen keys in the holder and do up the big knob. To do other side I just undo the big Knob and turn the whole thing around. Thats the why there's 2 threaded holes for the knob. Knife stays in one place through the whole process. Plunge lines stay equal. Only have to use the Knob to change sides. I don't touch Allen bolts until both sides are finished. Works for me

Yup squeezed all your glue out! Get it tight but you over tighten

Cool jig, but wouldn't it be more stable if you put two bolts in there? So you'd have two contact points. Just a little thought.

OK, that looks a bit like the jig I started to make, but the biggest flaw of that jig is that if the knife has a handle, the jig is useless...

I've been wanting to make Daryl Dixon and Betas knifes from the walking dead . Man I haven't been able to work in almost 10 years now . All I have is a old jigsaw , hacksaw small power drill .and files .. I realy wish I could get a angle grinder with cutting and grinding wheels . It's so hard . I live 2 hours from the closest Walmart. Plus I wouldn't be able to afford one and the disk... I have some metal layin around here teasing me . Good job. Send me an old angle grinder bro . 😬 I'm in Mason Tx. LOL

If you will clamp the part to be drilled onto the drill press table, drill the hole, do not unclamp the part, replace the drill bit with the desired tap in the Chuck. Hand feed the tap down until it makes solid contact. Hold pressure on the drill press handle with one hand and turn the Chuck with your other hand (not under power) The tap will be at 90 degrees to the hole you just drilled. Much easier than trying to start a plug tap with a tap wrench. Also to make tapping easier, use a starting tap or a gun tap will work.

I'm curious about how this technique would work on a steel knife handle? I also don't know if I would then need to paint or dura/cera coat it to avoid any rusting issues? As I would prefer not to use stainless steel or aluminum. Thanks for any thoughts, suggestions, or answers.

Could I use this on Carbon Fiber? I got a budget blade and it’s slippery and I want to add grip to it. Thanx in advance.

Your drill press work is dangerous. If your bit grabs or binds, that blade will be whipping around and with your face that close, something bad can happen.

There many ways to make handles! Horns, rocks, plastic, metal, wood ect ect 1 of the coolest ways is now. Taking plastic of all different colors and shave them to the shape you want and melt them into block to form handles. Can have any color you wish. Like blue and yellow ect.
